How a care plan works
- We start with an audit of your site, so we both know what we’re taking on. Its cost counts towards your first three months.
- We agree your work cycle: a fixed maintenance window each month and how your scheduled hours are used.
- You send requests by email or through the client portal. We acknowledge them within two working days and plan them into your next cycle, or sooner if there’s room.
- Every month you get a written report: what was updated, what was done, what we noticed and what’s coming up.
Urgent requests
Mark a request urgent and it goes to the front of the queue, to be dealt with at our next working session. Usually that’s the same or next working day, on a best-efforts basis.
We don’t run an on-call service or a phone line. Calls are booked video meetings at a time that suits you.
Hosting
Care plans include managed WordPress hosting, chosen and set up by us. If your site does go down, the host’s own round-the-clock support team is already on it.
Not ready for a care plan?
For one-off jobs, buy a block of prepaid support hours. Hours are scheduled after care plan clients, and urgent work can jump the queue at time and a half.
- 3 hours for £360, or 5 hours for £575
- Paid up front, valid for 12 months, used in 30-minute units
- Switch to a care plan any time, and any unused hours count towards it
Building a new site?
We build new WordPress sites in partnership with Open Design Agency. They lead on design and run the project; Watch the Dot does the technical build. When the site launches, it moves straight onto a care plan with the people who built it.
Questions
What counts as “scheduled work”?
Anything on your site within WordPress: content and layout changes, new pages and forms, plugin changes, small features, fixing problems, advice. Larger development is quoted separately, or covered by the Partner plan’s development days.
Can you take over a site someone else built?
Yes, that’s how most care plans start. The audit tells us both what we’re taking on, and anything that needs putting right first is quoted before we begin.
Do you work with WooCommerce?
Yes. Online shops are a good fit for a care plan, because payment gateways and extensions need careful, tested updates.
What if something breaks out of hours?
If the site is down, the hosting provider’s support team handles the server around the clock. Anything on the WordPress side is picked up at our next working session, ahead of everything else.
Can we have more hours some months?
Yes. Extra time is billed at the plan’s hourly rate, or you can move up a plan. We’ll suggest it in your review if it keeps happening.
Not sure where to start?
Most new clients start with a WordPress audit: a fixed-price review of your site’s health, security, hosting and editing set-up, with a written report and a call to talk it through. If we go on to work together, the cost counts towards your first three months.
