About
Small and senior, on purpose
Watch the Dot is a WordPress consultancy that looks after a small number of organisations’ websites, and trains the people who run them.
Christian Mayne
Christian graduated in Computer Science in 1996 and joined the UK’s biggest IT consultancy on its graduate scheme. He moved to an early dotcom service provider, where his clients included the then-new BBC News website, The Guardian and Deutsche Bank.
After the dotcom bubble burst, he built, ran and sold a national nightclub brand, before returning to web development in 2010 and to WordPress. Running a business of his own means he understands the pressure a website is under when it’s part of how an organisation makes money or delivers its mission.
He’s an experienced WordPress trainer, working with individuals, in-house teams, new developers and agencies, and has published plugins on WordPress.org.
Why small
A big agency gives you a ticket queue and whoever is free. We’d rather look after fewer sites and know each one properly: why it was built the way it was, what changed last month, and what the people who run it need. That continuity is most of what good support is.
Partners
New websites are designed and project-managed by Open Design Agency, with Watch the Dot as technical partner. It means each site is built by the people who’ll look after it.
Our plugins
We publish free plugins on WordPress.org for problems we kept meeting in client work. See our plugins.
Not sure where to start?
Most new clients start with a WordPress audit: a fixed-price review of your site’s health, security, hosting and editing set-up, with a written report and a call to talk it through. If we go on to work together, the cost counts towards your first three months.
